
When is a permit required?
PERMIT IS REQUIRED FOR:

New 1 & 2 family dwellings and commercial buildings

Additions to 1 & 2 family dwellings and commercial buildings

Remodeling to 1 & 2 family dwellings (including finished basements), and remodeling to commercial buildings

Any electrical wiring for new construction, additions, and remodeling

Electrical service additions, changes, or upgrades

Any plumbing for new construction and remodeling
-
Any HVAC for new construction and remodeling
-
Any new or re-wired electrical service
-
Decks and deck additions
-
*Detached accessory buildings over 200sq.ft.

*Agriculture buildings (Depending on municipality)
PERMIT IS NOT REQUIRED FOR:
-
Re-siding
-
Finishing of interior surfaces (such as kitchen cabinets)

Re-roofing *Unless work would create a 3rd layer of shingles. A permit is required accompanied by structural load-bearing calculations.

Normal repair of plumbing, electrical, and HVAC equipment.

Replacing windows or doors of the same size
-
Replacement of major building equipment including furnaces, central air conditioners, water heaters and any other major piece of equipment

Outdoor pools
-
Detached accessory buildings under 200sq.ft.

Agriculture buildings (Depending on municipality)
