BUILDING PERMIT IS REQUIRED FOR:

New 1 & 2 family dwellings & commercial buildings

Additions to 1 & 2 family dwellings & commercial buildings

Remodeling to 1 & 2 family dwellings & commerial buildings
-
Sewer lateral connections for new 1 & 2 family dwellings & commercial buildings
-
Electrical service additions, changes, or upgrades
-
Includes generators and solar panels
-

Any electrical wiring, plumbing, or HVAC work for new construction & remodeling
-
New decks, deck replacements, and deck additions
-
Detached accessory buildings greater than 100sqft
-
Outdoor swimming pools
-
Moving a building
-
New or replacement of major building equipment such as furnaces, central air conditioners, water heaters, and any other major piece of equipment.
BUILDING PERMIT IS NOT REQUIRED FOR:
-
Re-siding
-
Re-roofing, unless it creates a 3rd layer of shingles. A permit is required accompanied with structural load bearing calculations

Replacing windows or doors of the same size (no structural changes)

Finishing of interior surfaces (such as kitchen cabinets)
-
Normal repair of plumbing, electrical, & HVAC equipment

Agricultural buildings (except for electrical inspection per SPS316)

Detached accessory buildings smaller than 100sqft (such as portable, premade sheds)
ADDITIONAL PERMITS ARE REQUIRED FOR:

Land disturbing activities (requires erosion control permit from Building Inspector)

Raze / Demolition of any structure (contact city engineer)

Signs & fences (contact city zoning administrator)
